iPhone HVEC + ProRes Log Footage not converting to Rec. 709 color space

Hi all,

I have been shooting some clips in both HVEC and ProRes Log on my iPhone and imported these in the latest version of Premiere Pro on MacOS.

I turned all project, sequence settings to working color space Rec. 709 and also turned on in the Lumetri settings under project "Auto Detect Log Video Color Space" and "Auto Tone Map Media" without any result. The videos are still displayed washed out in Log. When I force overwrite the media color space to another such as AppleLog/Rec. 2020 it changes funnily.

I already tried to empty cache, reinstall Premiere Pro and I am a bit lost why it might not be working.

Looking for help on this issue - please let me know if there is anything else I could provide to troubleshoot.

Thank you a lot!

Hi @Lennard32330170fz96 -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How do I write a bug report?

Please let us know what mac you are using and which OS version number and Premiere version number.

It looks like you have shot two clips

009 - Looks to have been shot in Apple Log.

Sorry for the frustration.

Hi Jamie,

Thank you for your reply and the guidance! Hereby providing the information as instructed with the hope to achieve a resolution:

  • Issue - Video footage recorded in HVEC Log and ProRes Log does not convert correctly the color space via the "Auto Detect Log Video Color Space" and "Auto Tone Map Media" option/setting in Lumetri color so that footage remains in Log color space even after manually overwriting media color space to Rec. 709.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number:
  • Operating system - MacOS Sequioa 15.2
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • 3.8 GHz 8-Core Intel i7

    • AMD Radeon Pro 500 XT 16GB

    • 72 GB 2667 MHz DDR4

    • Internal HDD

  • Video 1 - format:
    • Format: HVEC Log
    • "Auto Detect Log Video Color Space" in Premiere Pro = Rec. 709

  • Video 2 - format:

  • Workflow details:
    • Two individual videos recorded and imported to Premiere Pro
    • Adding the two clips to the sequence
    • Enabling the"Auto Detect Log Video Color Space" and "Auto Tone Map Media" in Lumetri Color under Settings - Project & Sequence tab
    • No input lut
    • Attempt 1: Leave "Use Media Color Space" toggled on
    • Attempt 2: Try with "Override Media Color Space" with Rec.709 setting
    • Coloring remains in Log format - no visible change to Rec. 709 in the clips
  • Steps to reproduce - (Very important!) See above
  • Expected result - Change media color space to Rec. 709 either automatically or by overwriting the media color space manually
  • Actual result -  No visible change in the media color space

Hi @Lennard32330170fz96 - Can you try downloading the beta version 25.2 and let us know if that helps your issue.

The two images you have provided and both in Rec709 color space do appear to look correct.  Could you record something with more light and colors if you get a chance.
