Is there a risk to saving my project file on my NAS instead of my local drive?

Hi there,

Just getting started (as a beginner) and watched the first video ["Create a Project"] on the "Create a project and import a clip" tutorial: Adobe Learn

It's not clear to me if there are functionality rules that require me to save the project on my local drive or if it is okay for me to save them on my NAS and work from there. Additionally, is there a requirement for imported media files to be originally located on my local drive, or can those also come directly from my NAS?

I ask because these were limitations with the software I was previously using.

Thanks in advance!

Oksana

Update: I've since watched the 3rd video in that tutorial "Import media" and it is still not clear if working from a local file is a requirement or if the source can be a NAS. Thanks again :-).

In general, it's better to work from local files. But you can try it. Fast local drives are preferred. You didn't give any hardware info, Mac, PC? etc... and what kind of media will you be using? Info needed for a bug / tech support

Thanks so much for your response :-).

I'm using a MS Surface PC: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700H 2.90 GHz, RAM 32.0 GB (31.8 GB usable), system type: 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

I'm on Windows 11 Home, Version 24H2

The media I'm using for this project is typically .mp4, .wav, .jpg

It looks like the shortcuts through to my NAS are working...If it's just a matter of speed I can test it over time to see if there is a difference in usabilty. It will be interesting to see the difference! I was mainly concerned if that type of connection would lead to corruption (experienced in other software). My reason for NAS preference is daily backups of the project.

One more update to help new users: This beginner tutorial (Adobe Learn) is convincing me to stick with storage on my NAS. "For large projects containing high-resolution media files, it’s a good idea to save your imported media to a dedicated storage drive so you won’t unexpectedly fill up your hard drive." It talks of the "ingest" feature also which, in my case, was disabled by default. FYI I am working with multiple large video files for my current project.
