Is there a way to auto select a clip that has just been duplicated

Community Beginner ,

Heres the scenario:

I hold ALT and drag a clip thus making a duplicate copy and placing it where needed, but it doesn't select that new clip I dropped it in the timeline, it has the original clip still selected.

Is there a way to make the new duplicated clip to be auto selected after its been placed in the timeline?

I find that I make a new clip and then automatically start adjusting items in the effects control panel only to realie that Ive been manipulating the original clip. So then I would have to undo all the changes, then click the new clip and then manipulate the effects etc.

Any Help or tips / work arounds would be much appreciated

Thank you,

Drag > click ?

After dragging, selection tool is already over the new clip > click?

yeah that's the obvious/ sarcastic way but I feel the better way for proper
workflow would be to have it auto select. If I copy it over then it should
be obvious that it was the last selected clip in the timeline.

Or if you can explain to me the benefits that would apply to the majority
of editors to have the original clip still selected?

I often duplicate clips. The original clip selected does not hinder me in my workflow.

But I might not qualify to be amongst the majority of editors.

Its not a bug, it is the way it is designed, but you can post a feature request if you wish.

 Ann Bens provided the solution:

After dragging, selection tool is already over the new clip > click

If you want it to auto select, read this:
