Issue with timecode of captions matching exported clip

Hi,

New to using captions and I've used the Auto Caption feature in PP2022 - All works fine and I can edit and adjust etc. The issue comes when I export, I know it's a .srt file and that works fine, the text is in there. The problem is I'm editing multiple videos from one timeline. i.e First video starts at 00:00 to 02:56 for example. Then I edit another one on the same timeline and set an in-out point from 03:12 to 04:58. This way I can edit multiple videos on one timeline. Problem is when you export the .srt file it has the caption timecodes set to 03:12 to 04:58 for example on the second video. Now when you upload that second video to YouTube and try and add the captions the timecode is off. YouTube thinks the video starts at 00:00 and so the captions starting at 03:12 don't match up.

Apologies, I hope this is understandable. My query is - how can I set the caption timecode to 00:00 wherever I'm exporting them from on the timeline? I know I can set the video export to 00:00 in the export settings but I can't seem to do the same for the captions, meaning they won't sync up when posted to YouTube or FB.

Thanks for any help.

Yes, when setting in/out markers to export part of a sequence, the sidecar export will keep the timecodes from the sequence, not the in/out segment starting at zero.

You might use a third party tool to edit the srt and adjust the timecodes so they start at zero.

However, once the sequence is done and ready for exports, I would a) duplicate the sequence, b) set the first out point and export, and then c) cut the video at the out point (and drag select/delete the captions with it), then set the new out point. The exported srts will all start at zero and end with the exported segment. I think you should be sure the captions are not cut, although it probably wouldn't matter.

Thanks for taking the time to answer Stan - For now I'm going to just copy the project, start from the first clip at the beginning of the timeline, give it captions, export it, then delete it and drag the second clip to the beginning of the timeline and repeat. Not ideal but a solution nonetheless, hopefully Adobe will find a way to allow caption timecodes to match the sequence in/out segment timings.

That works. I do not see a feature request for this. If you add one, add a link here so we can upvote it.

That's a really good point Stan and something to keep in mind. I just ran a quick test and the SRT sidecar file kept the in and out points I set in the timeline.
