Join Through Edits option seem to have limited shelf life

When I cut a clip and then right click on the cut mark, I get the option of 'Join Through Edits'. It works fine in merging the cut portions.

However, it seems that after some time, this option gets grayed out. I am not able to figure out why and WHEN.

What is the 'event' which causes this option to gray out.

I also do not understand as to why this option gets grayed out after some time (Don't know what triggers this graying out).

I find this option useful in a cosmetic sense. This option (if not grayed out) eliminates lot of 'clutter' of cut clips on the timeline, thereby simplifying the visibility of the clips - particularly when the project is a very involved one.

I know there is a nest option. But it is not exactly fitting the requirement.

It's greyed out when there isn't a through edit, i.e. nothing to join. Turn on 'Show Through Edits' to keep track of when your clips lose their through edits.
