Lenovo Windows laptop crashes continuosly when building Premiere Pro/Rush projects

My laptop, purchased specifically with specs to run Premiere Pro/Rush projects whilst travelling, continually freezes shortly after I start a new project.
I am using a 7th Generation Lenovo X1 Carbon Thinkpad with Windows 10 Pro, 64 Bit; Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.30 GHz; 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable) RAM; 1Tb SSD HDD with 390Gb free. Whilst it's now 18 months old, I thought I would still have the resources required.
I use clips from GoPro 9 and 8, iPhone 11 and a DJI Mavic 2 Pro camera drone, all producing 4K, 30 FPS H.265 format. Basically, I'm making vlogging videos and some high quality output for clients. Until recently I had no problems.
I open my new project as per normal, import a few clips into the Source Monitor Panel then drag them to the Timeline etc. Just recently, the Insert/Overwrite buttons have not been working so I force the insertion to the Timeline by dragging and dropping. When I go to Run a preview of the sequence or to Save/Save As, the laptop freezes whether its PP or Rush....no difference. No Error Messages.
The ridiculous thing is I can actually compile these clips on my iPhone 11 using Rush, Lumifusion or Quik or even the native Google Photo Editor!
My Adobe Cloud Storage is full and could be extended if this is the problem.
I'd appreciate any advice.

You are using highly compressed source material with a non high end machine.

Might want to consider converting to a edit friendly codec or using proxies.

You cannot compare a iPhone to a laptop (apples/oranges).

Thank you so much for your response Ann. I suspected that might be the
case, but I am not a professional editor…. very much a mug beginner!
Would you or anyone be able to suggest alternative codecs or proxies.
Should I standardise on H.264 for this mix of sources?
The other observation I could make is that even if I load only a single
clip I have the same problem. If this is entirely due to the hardware, am I
going to be able to find a laptop that will suffice. I’m a Windows person
forever but would a Mac solve the capacity problem?
A lot of extra questions but any advice would be helpful!

Don't bother for another laptop, H.265 will still be a pita so can H.264.

Iphone footage would do probably better on a mac and fcp. (all in the family).

Prores or Cineform are good codec for proxies as well as for converting the files.

I convert everything to Prores 422 HQ, except footage that come from my camera, which is intraframe.

Beware of footage that is variable framerate then you cannot use AME but rather a converter like

Thank you Ann for taking the trouble to reply again. I will try your
advice. It may be a week or so before I reply again with outcomes (if
you’re interested) because I’m currently long distance cycle touring in
outback Western Australia.
