lift & insert selection AND extract & insert selection??

I want to transfer 1 video between 2 other videos. I hold down the ctrl key and drag the video from the timeline.
Sometimes it leaves a gap (screenshot) and sometimes it fills. Can someone tell me where the difference lies?

If you press ctrl BEFORE dragging with the mouse, Pr will not leave a gap (Extract & Insert Selection). If you press ctrl AFTER dragging the clip with your mouse, then you will have a gap (Lift & Insert Selection).
