Linking files

Hello, 

My audio and video files in Premiere are unlinked. The function to link them in the related clip menu doesn't seem to work. Is there a preference or some other place that links the audio with the video files? What am I missing?

Is this problem occuring in the timeline?

Toggle this button on by clicking on it (it turns blue when on) to get the timeline to respect the link status of a clip:
