I'm having major playback problems on both Premiere Beta and Premiere 25.1. It lags, freezes and is choppy. I barely can edit! I am using proxy files for the 4k footage shot on Sony cameras and drone footage. I am playing back on 1/4 resolution. I turned off "High Resolution playback". I deleted all my media cache. I even bought a new mac computer. I am using a mac studio M2 64 GB Ram. Sequoia OS. I often will shut down and reboot and sometimes it temporaily solves the problems, and then gets locked up again. I'm getting fed up with Adobe premiere! Please let me know what else I need to do.

Hi @Krisi S. - Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.
Please see, How do I write a bug report?
Can you check your audio hardware settings and make sure Default Input is set to "No Input"
This is a common problem for choppy footage.
Are you using any plugins or third party panels?
Do you have anything labeled Sony Catalyst installed?
Sorry for the frustration.

I started a project on Adobe Premiere Beta. I updated it to 25.2.0 build 79. Playback often would freeze and sometimes chop along. So I opened the project in Adobe Premiere 25.1.0 Build 73. I have the same problem with playback issues. Sometimes it plays better than other times, but mostly it's frozen or choppy.
I am on Apple M2 Max 64 GB RAM Sequoia 15.2 OS.
I closed the 3rd party panel Motion Array but still have playback problems. I unplugged my 2nd monitor. Didn't help.
I do have the Catalyst Browse app installed. I don't use it directly with adobe premiere.
My files were shot 4k on sony cameras. Files are .mxf and .mp4. I transcoded them as .mov proxy files. The drone footage is also 4k but .mov. I transcoded those into proxy files as well. The drone footage is the worst to work with and gets stuck on those clips the most...even though it's linked as a proxy file.
My audio hardware is set to "No input".
Any other ideas?

Hi @Krisi S. - Can you delete the Sony Catalayst app, this interferes with Premiere Pro and playback.
You can also hold down "SHIFT" while launching Premiere and check the boxes
"Reset Plugin Cache"
"Disable third-party plugins (one time only)"
"Clear media cache files"
Let us know if that helps your issue.

Removing that catalyst software made a huge difference. Thank you. I still have some stuttering playback on some of the drone footage. Again, they are proxy files, but it the playback is choppy. Also, when I went back into my timeline after deleting the catalyst and removing cache files, some of the lumetri color correcting I did turned off some of the clips. Any ideas?

Hi @Krisi S. - Can you right click on one of the drone clips that you are having problems with and navigate to Modify > interpret footage. Then post a screenshot of the window.
Color Correcting turning off, can you be more specific? Is the Lumetri effect still on the clip?

This has a time re-map effect on it. It hardly ever plays smoothly in the timeline.
The files where the color correction was no longer showing correctly, they were slog 3 footage that had an internal LUT and showed correctly on my computer and I only did a basic contrast adjustment. Now it shows like Log footage without any LUTs.

Also, when I export the timeline some of the clips show as flat log footage when they looked correct in the timeline.

Hi @Krisi S. - Are you exporting out of Premiere or Media Encoder? Can you post a screenshot of your Lumetri settings while you have the clip selected that is exporting as log.

Today I opened up premiere and it stays frozen on a frame and won't playback at all. I deleted Sony Catalyst after that it was playing better. But today it's frozen again. I'm on 1/4 res playback. Using proxies. Can't figure it out. I'm on a new mac studio computer. I did transfer my old imac computer over to this new one, so maybe it brought with it some problems. Any other ideas?

Ok now it's playing. It took about 10 minutes before it would play without being choppy. Not sure why?
