Markers on merged clips in the timeline are added to the wrong point

I am using merged clips in this project. When I add a marker to the clip in the timeline, the marker is always added much earlier than where the current time indicator (CTI) is at. In some cases the marker is placed 2 seconds before, in some places it is over 20 seconds before, and everywhere in between. This means I have to add the marker, extend the beginning point of the clip until I can see the marker, open the clip in the source panel, and move the marker to where I need it to be. Or open the merged clip in the source panel and add a marker there. Any fix?

This is happening to me today. I'm working with auto-transcriptions, as well, and not only are markers added in the Timeline appearing at the wrong point (earlier), but the transcripts are auto-scrolling at the wrong point.

Hi @Clare_Major,

I read your post. You say you're using merged clips. Did you record your audio separately? You might try syncing using the Multicamera syncing function instead. That may give better results. I hope the advice helps.

Thanks for the reply. What I'm actually trying to do is sync up, transcribe, and edit footage from two different cameras and an external recorder: MOV files with one video and two tracks of audio, MP4 files with one video and two tracks of audio, and WAV files with up to five tracks of audio. I'm able to modify the timecodes (in Premiere) on all three sources to sync up. So far I have been merging the MOV and the WAV files and just trying to be careful about keeping the MP4 files in sync, and only transcribing the merged files.

With multicamera, can I sync all three sources together and get something that is transcribable within Premiere?

Should be. What you're describing is the basic multicam workflow. And in Premiere, multicam is the main way designed for joining video/audio clips. "Merge clips" sounds like it should be, but it was actually designed (say some engineers) for other specific quick sequence uses. And has noted issues and limitations in several ways.

Figured it out! What you gotta do is trim the beginning of the audio clip so it starts at the same time as as the video clip before merging.
