So I've been having a TON of issues with my workflow making video essays with Premiere and After Effects, and I'm going to attempt to explain my issues to the best of my ability here so I can finally (hopefully) get some answers, as the adobe support helpline has rarely provided legitimate solutions but the forums have.
I make video essays for Youtube using Premiere and After Effects. I started in 2020 on my dinky Apple Laptop, so the videos were rudimentary. As I've improved, I've delved into motion graphics, which are made in After Effects. I have always had issues with exporting due to low storage, which introduced me to the Media Cache Folder. I had no storage on my laptop, so it was a frequent issue while editing and I had to constantly clear it. Since my laptop days, I've gotten a pre-built PC that began to routinely crash using AE and Premiere Pro to an unusable degree, which never happened up until a few months ago. I attempted to fix this issue by 1) buying more RAM to have 48gbs, updating my drivers for my PC, and buying an External 2TB Sandisk SSD as my PC also has very low storage. Based on my past experiences with media cache taking up a ton of space on my laptop, I changed the location of my cache folder to my external SSD in folders labeled "Premiere Pro" and "After Effects" respectively. I do not know which of these solved the crashing problem, but for a moment it was solved...up until a few weeks ago.
Now, in the past three projects I have worked on with this premiere pro/after effects dynamic link work flow I have gotten conform errors. This has absolutely stunted my progress and I have not received any solutions to this error, although research has led me to believe that it is something to do with moving the media cache foler from my internal harddrive with low storage to my external SSD. Adobe support calls have brushed past this idea, but considering other posts have stated similar experiences and I have only received this error on projects where I have moved the cache folder, I feel like its important.
Now, the audio files for any file (sound effects, video footage, etc.) all have a .cfa file appear underneath them whenever importing them to after effects (picture included), which again makes me think I am having errors with my media cache system.
All of that being said, I was wondering if anyone could help me improve my worflow by answering a few questions
What exactly is the media cache folder, database, and how do they work? More importantly, where should I put them to actually be able to export my videos? As placing the folder on my harddrive makes my computer crash due to having no memory, and putting them on the SSD makes conform errors. It seems like a lose-lose and I simply do not have a solution.
What is a conform error? To the best of my understanding, it is something regarding linking the audio properly, which would make sense as my conform errors have led to videos or segments not having sound.
Is there any idea why my computer keeps crashing? Is it just not powerful enough to run the graphics I want? Because it crashes quite frequently, especially when importing files, exporting, and doing an intensive graphic.
