Memory use slowly rising to 100% and then HDD rising to 100% usage causing my computer to bluescreen

Hello, I have been working on a project fine for a couple of weeks, recently (last few days) when I open the project it does this thing on the task manager where the memory useage slowly risesto 100% and then my internal secondary HDD rising to 100% usage causing my computer to bluescreen - the HDD holds a couple files from the project but a lot of the files are mostly scattered around my internal SSD. I have tried importing the project into a new project but that doesn't work, so I just imported selected sequences, paying close attention to the memory usage, it spikes a little but not that much, then as soon as I open the sequence that I am working on the memory begins climbing again, I have tested out other projects with random footage and they work fine, I have film impact and maxon universe installed but both of those work fine in other projects with no issues so I cannot pinpoint where the memory leak is occurring and I need some help... also prp does not respond to me capping the memory usage, it just goes up exponentially

Ok, it must be something to do with the recent updates to premier pro and their compatibility with maxon software - I downgraded the universe plugin all the way back to 2024 and I still got the memory leak, however I then tried downgrading premier pro to 2024 as I realise I hadnt done it properly before because I couldnt open the project up in an 'older version of premier pro' so I used this website - https://joshcluderay.com/downgrade-premiere-project-converter/ to convert the project to an old

Computer specs would be helpful. Since you seem to be using a HDD, is it an older machine, etc.

Also, it seems to be a problem with the one sequence, can you open that project and close the sequence immediatly? Or try importing just that sequence into a new sequence. Here's some Info needed for a bug / tech support

sure sorry should have included in the question, in addition to these specs I have some more information, so I got it running for a little bit without it freaking out, I opened a new project, then I added a bunch of stuff in that new project just random footage, it worked fine, then I opened the project that id previously imported all the stuff into to see if it worked and with both the projects open there was no memory issues, I edited just fine for 1 hour then while scrubbing the timeline premier crashed and game me a crash report, I reopened premier and opened the 2 projects with the 'reopen' button, then the memory issues kicked in again -

quick confirmation also that if I open the project, close that sequence, save the project and then open it back up without the sequence open premier functions fine, no errors, then soon as I open the sequence the memory begins rising exponentially - If I then close the sequence this changes nothing and the memory continues to rise until I force quit premier, I cannot close out of premier in this state it will turn unresponsive and the memory will continue to rise, this really seems like a pretty major error

Ok, another really strange thing, when I open the project without the sequence open, its fine as I said, memory is a little high but nothing crazy, then I open some sequences from that project, fine, but when I go to open the main sequence, I can hover over it and preview it - no issues, little memory spikes but no exponential rise, HOWEVER as soon as I click the sequence, not even open it, as soon as I click it, boom, memory begins rising to doom and doesn't stop, I cant close premier, its stuck in some strange loop

Hmm... so it's sounds like a problem when loading just that one sequence. Did this start after some thing you were editing, like an effect or such added at some point? I'm thinking in particular a Warp stabilizer. There's nothing known about it, but the way it creates huge data in the project has always be a thorn in my side. 🙂

Ok, the issue is almost definitely related to maxon universe, I hate the plugin I hate maxon I think their company sucks but they are the only ones with a few specific effects that I need... I dont know how to fix this, and I've used their transitions a bunch so I just dont know what to do 😞

Yes latest version, I tried the version before that and 2024 and 2023, all of these have the same issue, please see all my associated replies for a fuller understanding of the problem, it is absolutely linked to compatibility with maxon universe as uninstalling it then opening the problem sequence does not cause the memory leak- also opening another sequence before opening the problem sequence and loading a handfull of the maxon effects will stop the memory leak temporarily after opening the problem sequence but shortly after a bit of editing inside the sequence memory begins climbing premier freezes and I have to force quit or the computer will crash...

Hi @nede123 - Nice work finding what was causing the memory leak.  What version of Universe do you have installed?  Have you contacted Maxon?

Yes, I have emailed them a bug report but theres no data I can send them other than some obscure 'memory leak' I tried creating a memory dump from the crashing premier pro and I got a corrupted file with 'catastrophic faliure' and visual studio couldn't open it up, I tried debug options in task manager and got the same catastrophic faliure, I've installed 3 past versions of maxon universe (all from 2025) and all have the same issue, so im gonna go to 2024 version since that was the last time I actually used the program, Id hoped they might have fixed some of the glaring compatibility issues by now but turns out its even worse, I will reply here if the 2024 version works, I just dont know what could be causing the memory leak tbh...

Ok, it must be something to do with the recent updates to premier pro and their compatibility with maxon software - I downgraded the universe plugin all the way back to 2024 and I still got the memory leak, however I then tried downgrading premier pro to 2024 as I realise I hadnt done it properly before because I couldnt open the project up in an 'older version of premier pro' so I used this website - https://joshcluderay.com/downgrade-premiere-project-converter/ to convert the project to an older version and this seems to work fine, Im very confused as to what update caused these issues since I havent had issues with premier 2025 before with the maxon universe plugin I dont think anyway... but downgrading to 2024 prpro seems to work... I'm not sure how to share enough information to help identify the cause of the memory leak properly but I would be happy to follow specific steps if It could provide you guys with more information as now I will just have to use premier pro 2024 until this is fixed

It sounds like you have it working, and you can continue for now. That's good news.

If you ever prefer to not upload your file to a website, you can use the easy 4-steps to enable a project to opened in a previous version of PP
