Nested Sequence Scaling

New Here ,
Apr 23, 2020 Apr 23, 2020

Hi everyone, I am very new to video and editing and I am currently working on a project that has both 4k and 1080p footage in a 1080p timeline because I want to export in 1080p, but in order to stabilize and time remap my 4k footage, I have to nest the clip and when I scale the nested clips, the quality of the video becomes worse because the 4k clip is set to 50% scale to fit the screen before nesting. My question is, what is the best way to approach this problem without losing quality? I am asking this because I want to time remap and warp stabilize my footage before doing any scaling for effects but I cant do the scaling until both the time remapping and stabilizing has been done which requires nesting. Thank you for any advice!

Put the 4K footage in a 4K sequence and do your time remapping.  Nest that 4K sequence and do your stabilization.

Then insert the 4K sequence with both effects into the 1080 sequence.  You will lose some quality going to 1080.

After nesting the 4k clips together, go to "Sequence," select "Custom" for editing mode, and then input the resolution of your original 4k clips.
