Is there a way to open a project without it loading all the previous sequences in the timeline?

I am in the middle of a project and have a lot of sequences already open but when I open an old project it opens up dozens of sequences that the previous editor forgot to close.  Surley they're is a way to do this. Holding down a certain key while the project is opening?

The project will always open with whatever was showing when it was last saved.
