Particular project crashing Premiere when attempting to open

Hi,

Premiere 2025; MacBook Pro 2018; Sonoma 14.6.1

When attempting to open project, program appears to crash about 1/3 of the way through loading (based on the progress bar).

All other projects and new projects open no problem.

Have uninstalled Premiere 2025, reinstalled, restarted; cleared cache; run Creative Cloud Diagnostics (no issues found); reset app preferences; reset plugin loading cache; disabled third-party plugins, duplicated and rename project.

Same problem attempting to open previously saved versions from AutoSave folder.

Attempting to import the project into a new project results in the same problem (failing about 1/3 of the way through trying to load), same problem trying to view in a new project via Media Browser.

Thanks for any advice!

Hi Ste3ve!

Sorry about the crash. Does it happen with a specific project? Do you see any error codes or messages when it crashes? Could you try opening the project in an earlier version of Premiere Pro (2024)? Have you considered updating your macOS? On Mac, drivers update along with the OS.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

KR

Thanks for the response!

Yes, as mentioned it's only happening with one particular project. No error codes, just crashes a third of the way through the "opening" process (screen grab attached).
Won't open in Premiere 2024 as it was created in Premiere 2025.
Have updated MacOS. Also ran Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool.
Also uninstalled all Adobe products, uninstalled Creative Cloud, deleted any remaining Adobe files.
Reinstalled Creative Cloud and Premiere.
Same problem.

I was able to open it on someone else's laptop, so it would seem it must be some associated file on my laptop that's not part of the project file? Can't figure out what that could be considering I removed all files related to Premiere.

Thanks for your help.

Really interesting that it opens on another laptop! Do us a favor – on that crash window, check the box that says "Adobe may contact me for fixes and workarounds" and put your email in the box. Then click "Send report." That will make sure we have this experience logged on our end.

Is the project saved on an external hard drive or network storage? What about the media files you're using to edit?

If you remove the "_" from the title, change it to "Spin Melepura" does that allow you to open it? Sometimes special characters in project files can cause a glitch like this.

Let us know,

Caroline

Thanks for the response!

Yes, I had already checked the box with my email and did "Send Report" earlier this morning, and included all the info I've included here.

Everything is on an external drive. All files used in the project can open fine in a new project.

Removing the "_" from the title didn't help.

Thanks again for your help.

Update:

In addition to following all the suggestions here, as well as those on other Adobe community and reddit threads regarding similar issues, I uninstalled all Adobe products, preferences, caches, etc, and scanned the device for any possible associated files that might be connected to the issue and deleted manually. From the other laptop (where the project opens with no problem), I started a new project, with a new name, etc. From within that project I imported just the sequences necessary from the project of issue, along with their related media files. Saved this project as a entirely new project. Brought it back to the original laptop and once again, it crashed the program 1/3 of the way through the opening process. And again, all other projects and new projects open with no problem. And new projects with all the relevant media imported works fine as well. Have sent multiple "Send Report"s in to Adobe but no response. Thanks.
