PC Freezes randomly when importing things to the timeline

Hi. I've recently update to premiere 2025 and I'm having a really strange issue. As I've said in the tittle, everytime I import something to the timeline there's a small chance my PC completly freezes. It can happen with anykind of file, .mp4, gifs, pngs etc. And it's not a thing of one file in specefic, it can happen with any file.

I still hear things, like if I have music on the background I still hear it while the screen is frozen.
After a minute or two my screen goes completly black ((The backlight of my monitors is still on))
And after a couple of minutes my PC unfreezes again, I have to restart premiere since the preview doesn't work after this happens.

This only happens to me with the most recent version of premiere. No other game, app or premiere version does this to me so I don't think it's an issue with my laptop.

I've tried many things like updating drivers, chaging my laptop settings to performance, checking if one of the rams was not correctly installed, resetting the layout inside Premiere, deleting the cache, changing the cache file location to my other disk. Nothing has worked.

My specs are:
-GeForce GTX 1650
-Ryzen 5 4600H
-16 GB of RAM

Hi @conn_8115 - Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

What exact version of premiere are you using?

What gpu driver are you using?

Can you check your audio hardware settings and make sure Default Input is set to "No Input"

Sorry for the frustration.

Just a few ideas.

16 gigs of ram is not alot particularly if you're dealing with 4K material...    And do you have any material with a variable frame rate (from smartphone and computer screen recording).    Variable frame rate can cause intermittent and unpredictable issues.

If your system was working fine with Premiere 2024, revert to the previous version.   Updates often put a greater strain on your system.  You will find the option in the creative cloud applications folder if you click on the three dots and choose "other versions."  You should be able to update and app without uninstalling the previous version.  This should be an option in the install dialog.

Post back if none of this helps and maybe something will occur to me.

Hi @conn_8115 - We need the driver version number.  In the nvidia app you can find this information in the nvidia app under drivers tab.  Let us know if you are using the game driver or the studio driver

Hi @conn_8115 - Are you getting a crash dialog box?  Do you have any third party plugins or panels installed?

Temporarily remove plug-ins and see if that fixes things. There are
plug-in managers for the Mac and I imagine there’s something available for
Windows

Hi, Sorry for not responding, i went into vacation and then tried what you told me. Nope, it hasn't help at all, now I have only Base Premiere, no plugins or other external programs and everything is still the same...

I've discovered something new, when my screen goes black if I wait for 2 or 3 minutes everything comes back up like nothing happened, but the preview of the video doesn't work, it's just black, I have to restart the app and then everything goes back to normal. Maybe it's something related with the video preview? I have it on low quality so it doesn't use that many resources of my PC
