Playback at double speed cutting out in CC 2019

When I use the "L" key to speed up the playback of my sequence so that I can watch it through at double speed, the audio is constantly cutting out. After playing for only a few seconds, the audio cuts out, the video continues to play for a second or two, then Premiere skips back to where the audio cut out and starts playing again from there. This happens again and again, until I give up. It feels like Premiere is struggling to keep up with playing the footage at that speed, but it used to work fine on the same computer with the same type of footage.

I have looked at my Task Manager when doing this and it says my CPU is only using 7%, Memory 20%, Disk 10%, GPU 7%, so it seems as if my computer can handle the task. I have also tried changing the Playback Resolution to 1/8, and this doesn't fix the problem.

I have no problems playing the sequence at normal speed. And I never used to have this problem. Can anyone suggest what might be causing it?

I'm using Premiere Pro CC v13.0.3

Not sure what might be causing this, but I'd say maybe try rendering your audio (under the Sequence menu) before doing double speed playback. Obviously this is a pain if you're making any tweaks as you go, as any changes will require re-rendering.

Try Shift + L to variably speed up shuttling. Does that work? Can you tell us more about your system?

I'm having the same issue and have yet to find a solution. Rendering the audio doesnt solve the issue.

I just had this problem. Trash all media cache files and PEK files. Worked for me.

I transcoded my MXF files over to ProRes 422 LT and have been having much better results in regards to OP's issue. This issue has been the death of me, so I hope this is a lasing fix. Nothing else has helped.

Hey, I was having this issue as well, but found a fix. 

If your video and audio are stored on the same hard drive, copy the audio somewhere else and relink it. 

In my case I'm working on a OWC Mercury Elite Pro drive, and had your exact problem. I copied the audio to my 4TB interal SSD and I'm not having any more dropouts.
