Playback not responding and crashing on Mac Studio M1 Max after latest update

Community Beginner ,

Hello,

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with Premiere Pro after the latest update. After about five minutes of use, the timeline playback completely freezes. I can still click around the interface and open menus, but the playback controls and scrub bar are unresponsive. After a short period of this, the application eventually crashes.

I've already tried several troubleshooting steps, including:

  • Restarting the application and my computer.

  • Clearing the media cache.

  • Updating my graphics drivers (which is managed by macOS).

  • Checking for any known issues on the Adobe Help Center.

I know the M1 chip's hardware acceleration is very efficient, but it seems something in this new update is causing a conflict.

Has anyone else with a similar setup experienced this? Any guidance on a fix would be greatly appreciated.

My system specs:

  • Adobe Premiere Pro version: 25.5.0 (build 13)

  • Computer: Mac Studio (2022)

  • Processor: Apple M1 Max

Thank you for your help.

Hi @mukulreru -  Thanks for submitting your bug report. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.

Do you have any third party plugins or panels installed?

Sorry for the frustration.

Hi @mukulreru - Can you share a screen recording?  Do you receive a crash dialog box?

Hi @mukulreru -  Can you navigate to the help menu and select system compatibility report then in the bottom left hand corner select export and email those two files to jamiec@adobe.com

I am also having the same issue.  What is weird is that I have another project and that project in particular has not had any issues while editing.  It is only with this Project in particular that I am having this issue.  I am using insta360 x6 .insv files natively in both projects.  It is very frustrating.  I have deadlines.  Please advise!

LATEST

After much painstaking investigation, including a ridiculously long time with Adobe Support, we figured out that my source files (screen recordings) had variable frame rates, which Premier Pro cannot handle. Fixed by recreating with a constant frame rate of 30 using handbrake.fr.

Hope this helps.
