Poor performance on 2019 iMac w/ 64gb ram

Premiere is being extremely laggy and I'm getting pretty fed up. Any help would be appreciated. I've been suffering through this for a while. Here's the low-down:

Activity monitor puts CPU usage around 120% during playback. Just zooming in and out on the timeline seems laggy. RAM usage doesn't seem to spike up. The only programs open in the background are safari and activity monitor. I just did a clean install of the OS (Ventura), but have loaded up all programs I use regularly.

I'm using proxies. The raw footage (which is moslty 4k canon) is offline, only the proxies are connected. The proxies are 1024x540 ProRes 422 Proxy, playing off an external SSD. The project is only about 2.1MB.

I've got a 2019 iMac (3.6 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9) w/ 64gb RAM 2667 MHz DDR4 and Radeon Pro 580X 8 GB graphics card, 120gb free internal (SSD) hard drive space.

Hi, Crumo,

Oh man, sorry about this. Your CPU spiking concerns me. Maybe your sequence or project is corrupt. Can you try copying and pasting the clips into a new sequence? If the CPU is still spiking, can you try the clips in a new sequence in a new project? If that works, you can import the contents of your previous project into the new one. Then, check Activity Monitor once more. I hope one of these workarounds may help.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thank Kevin. Copying the clips into a new timeline within a new project seems to have done the trick. I appreciate the help! I was really banging my head against a wall trying to figure out what was going on.

I believe the issue is stemming from me using a Lumetri LUT on an
adjustment layer. The track output was off, so it did not occur to me that
it may be causing my performance issues. But when I put the LUT back on the
newest sequence, I started getting playback issues again. I tried deleting
the LUT, and the playback issues are still there. But if I close the
sequence and re-open it (after the LUT is deleted), the issues go away.

I had Lumetri applied with custom adjustments. I'll attach screenshots.

Ahh ... Lumetri shouldn't be causing troubles ... but ... sometimes in an AL over a bunch of tracks, issues do pop up. Still, I wouldn't expect it. Hmmm.
