Premeire Pro CC 2018 crashes importing media

New Here ,
Jan 13, 2018 Jan 13, 2018

So a few weeks ago every time I tried to import media PP would crash.  Randomly it started working last week and let me import a few clips.  Jumped into the same project today and it only lets me import certain videos, sometimes it doesn't import the audio, just video, and most of the time it just crashes when I begin to import the media.  Have already restarted, uninstalled, updated all drivers, viewed the videos in other programs, and have tried solutions from old forums.  Nothing works.  The video files are in MP4 format.

System Specs

Windows 10

I7 6700k CPU

Nvidia GTX 1060

16gbs Ram

This has actually happened to me as well. It is definitely a Window 10 issue and something that can happen to anyone using any Graphic Intensive application--including Gamers and Graphic Animators, etc. It is not exclusively an Adobe thing. Here is some information about ESE. Wikipedia can explain this part better than I:

"ESE provides transacted data update and retrieval. A crash recovery mechanism is provided so that data consistency is maintained even in the event of a system crash. Transactions in ESE are highly concurrent making ESE suitable for server applications. ESE caches data intelligently to ensure high performance access to data. In addition, ESE is lightweight making it suitable for auxiliary applications."

FYI--My computer has similar specs to yours except I have GTX980. When I got this error--it was after the last Fall Update. First thing I did was update my graphic drivers. When that didn't work--I rolled back the drivers to an earlier driver. This didn't work--though it may in your case. Re-installing my entire system and apps did work. With the exception of the last item on the list, the following didn't work for me but has worked for others with this exact error. Ultimately it is something that Microsoft needs to fix.

  • Update or rollback your video card drivers
  • Update or rollback the Windows Updates (though they force you update sometimes)
  • Re-install All Adobe Application (delete all files, all registry entries). Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool for complete Removal
  • Scan and Repair your hard drive(s)
  • Clean re-install your operating system and apps (completely install)

Once again, the last work for me but should be a last resort. Good luck!

You may need to convert to a codec that is meant to edit, not something meant only to view later

with https://handbrake.fr/ open source transcoder/converter
