So I have just moved from PC to an iMac Retina 5k, 27-inch, 2017, (intel Core i5, 32GB Ram, Radeon Pro 570 4096 MB ). I purchesed this exclusively to run Premier Pro. And its a total failure. My 5yo PC was doing much better than this. Clips either won't play (they just freeze up) or are extremley choppy. it even takes minutes to shut down. Its basically unusable in its current state. I am new to Macs and have no idea where to start. Is this something to do with the fact that I was using a PC? Is this iMac just a total waste of $3000Aud. Have I done something wrong?

Hi gregoryf,

Sorry to hear that you are getting performance issues in Adobe Premiere Pro on your new iMac Retina.

Thank you for sharing the system specifications. However, the performance of any video editing application is dependent on several other factors as well. Please answer the following questions so that we can troubleshoot the issue better:

  • Does it happen with a specific project?
  • Is GPU acceleration enabled under File > Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback?
  • Please check the memory allocation for Premiere Pro under Preferences > Memory

[Note: At least 16GB should be allotted to Adobe Premiere Pro]

  • What is the playback resolution in the Program Monitor?
  • Please share a screenshot of the sequence settings.
  • Are you using any plugins?

Thanks,

Shivangi
