Premiere 23.3 8 GB M1 keeps crashing/running out of application memory on export or moving playhead

Things just keep getting progressively worst.

Initially, I was able to play the sequence and move the play head around, and at least attempt to export, which is when it would initially crash and "run out of application memory." Now it's crashing and "running out of application memory" even if I move the playhead at all.

I played around with opening in rosetta, and turing off hardware accelration, then reverted back to normal when that didn't work.

I converted my source file from .mov to .mp4, using handbrake, then I selected the .mov and used "Replace Footage..." to swap it with the .mp4 version.

I took screenshots of anything I could think of and posted below.

Previously I was able to work on and export a way larger file than this, so I don't think it's down to my 8GB of ram on my imac M1.

These issues started after I updated to Ventura 13.3 and with Premiere Pro 23.3.

I'm at my wits end. Any help is appreciated.

I've been experiencing this same issue for almost a month now. I've used the same phrase: "at my wit's end." Adobe needs to take issues like this seriously. I can't get work done.

The only thing that finally worked consistently was downgrading to 22, and converting any current 23 projects that are freezing, to be compatible with 22. There is a site that downgrades projects to 22, here

Also, any .MOV files, especially ones with variable bit rates, I converted to .MP4 with a constant bit rate using handbrake

This three step process was the only way I was able to get back on track and not experience anymore crashes, freezes, or memory leaks. Period.

Beyomd that, my next move would have been to give HitFilm a try. But so far I haven't had to resort to HitFilm because 22 has been working the way I remember Premiere Pro working previously before 23-point-whatever-it's-up-to-now.

Good luck.
