Premiere CC 23 interface is unusably laggy

After the latest updates (23.0 and 23.1.) Premieres interface has been painfully laggy and slow. Playback works fine even with multiple effects applied, but the interface lags at all times so much, it's basically unusable. I have had major issues with getting work done because of this and there are many conversations online about this issue.

I am on an iMac Pro 2017, 3 GHz 10-core Intel Xeon W, Raden Pro Vega 56 8Gt and 32 Gt RAM running Mac OS Ventura 13.1. I also have a Macbook Pro 14" M1 Pro that has no issues at all, so the issue is only there with the iMac Pro. I know it's not the best video editing computer out there, but it has worked perfectly fine before these updates, but now it's just pure rubbish.

Hello @Kasper Garam,

Thanks for the message. It’s been a long time since you filed this bug, and I apologize for the lack of a response. Are you still having this issue? If so, the team will need more information from you to reproduce the bug. Can you provide the information required here? How do I write a bug report?

I'll move your post to the Discussions board while we await your information.

Thanks,

Kevin

I am on a well equipped 2019 MacPro and have been experiencing similar issues. I thought it was my storage drive for a bit but it doesn't seem to be as my M1 Max has no problem with it.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 23.1.0 (Build 86)
  • Operating system - macOS Ventura 13.2 (22D49)
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • CPU - 3.2 GHz 16-Core Intel Xeon W

    • GPU and Driver Version - AMD Radeon Pro W5700X 16 GB

    • RAM - 160 GB 2933 MHz DDR4

    • Hard Drive (and, if external, how the drive is connected: USB 3, Thunderbolt, etc.). - OWC Gemini connected via TB3 cable.

UPDATE:

What's been working for the last hour or so: I realized I had swapped TB cables between my OWC RAID and my Studio Display - so my display was running off the OWC RAID's TB port as a daisy chain and not off the tower's GFX card. So far so good - both the RAID and displays are plugged into the tower and I have had minimal issues. Will set a reminder to report back if anything changes or if this, in fact, was the solve. Interested in OP's signal flow and if that might be an issue?

I'm in the same boat!

I used Prores proxies for all my 4k footage and it used to work flawlessly.

Now when I open up PP it runs smooth, but then after 5 min it gets so sluggish... I can't even Edit

I'm running the project of a Samsung T7 drive was fast enough in the past.

Any clues???

We're in 2023 and we're still having these kind of bugs...
I think it's been 10-15 years with these issues.
Time to write Premiere source code from scratch?
