Hi guys,
I need help. Editing a long form project - nearly 8TB of footage split in two SSD drives. Took over a Premiere 2024 project.
I've converted into a Premiere 2025 one, and as I was editing the software kept crashing. I've tried everything: starting a new project and importing the old one, moving it to another drive, resetting preferences and deleating cache. Nothign worked.
Then I created a Premiere 2024 project - version 24.6.4 - and now it's much, much better, but still it carshes every 40 mins. I'm working on a Macbook Pro, M4 Pro chip, 24GB RAM- OS Sequoia 15.1.
Can someone help me? Could it be that I'd need a more powerful machine? When Im editing it flows really well, the machine doesn't give any sign of struggle.
Appreciate anyone who takes time to answer! Thank you

Hi @Kevin-Monahan - Thank you so much.
Im working with MXF file, codec avci, but liked to Proxy in Prores 422. There are also some mp4, codec H.264 and HEVC, still linked to Prores Proxy. All the proxies are attached. The toggle proxies button is on.
The crashes happen randomly every now and then, but it's impossible to work this way. The two SSD drives are connected via USB - C
Is there any other info that could help you?

Any subtitles or video effects going on?
Cheers,
Kevin

None of them! Although are some titles created with fonts missing from the current project.
One thing to add is that everytime I open the project is asking me to locate the proxies file.
Thanks!

Thanks for the response. The team looked at a crash report you generated internally and cannot determine an exact cause unless you can provide steps to make the crash recur. What editing steps are you engaging in when that happens? You might try resetting preferences and deleting the media cache. Press Shift at launch to get the Reset Options dialog box open and perform the steps from there. I hope that works. If not, let us know any steps to reproduce the issue. I hope we can help you determine what is going on here.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hi @Kevin-Monahan,
Thank you so much. I've found sequences with subtitles in the project and got rid of them. I've also deleted a few H264 clips that weren't linked to proxies. That improved a lot, reducing the number of crashing. Nevrtheless, it still happens every now and then.
STEPS
Unfortunately there isn't a specific editing command / action that triggers the crash. This morning happened while I wasn't pressing any keys. Yesterday while I was adding a mark and later while moving a clip in the timeline.
I've already tried to reset preferences and deleting media cache prior to all of this.
Anything else you think is causing the problem?

Just following up where Kevin left off. Are you still having the crash happen in your project? Would you be able to provide us with the project that was crashing on you? Just wanted to see if there is anything else we can do to help with your original problem.
Thank you
Ian
