Premiere pro 2024, video and audio track

Community Beginner ,

In the last few versions on the timeline V1,2,3.......    and the A1,2,3......   track has BUG!  For example, when you copy the video from the V1 track and want to put it on the V2 by turning off the V1 track and pasting the video, it pastes on that track where you took it from in this case on V1. So it means that V1,2,3,4.... or other video or audio track is turned on or off it makes no sense.

It's not a bug, it is the way it has been redesigned.

Paste to same track

They changed the DEFAULT paste result in Release 22.5:

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/whats-new/2022-5.html#paste-same-track

The change adds a timeline keyboard shortcut to paste to the targeted track, but it is unassigned.

To go back to the "old" way, just delete the shortcuts in the Panel -> Timeline section of the Keyboard customization: "Paste Insert To Same Track" -> Ctrl+Shift+V and Paste [Overwrite] To Same Track -> Ctrl+V.

which way? They just make the button unusable, it would be better to remove the button completely because now I don't know what the function of that button is.

We can still do Paste to Target Track and Paste Insert to Target Track.  Please follow the link included in the Correct Answer for this post for more information.

In the last versions, when you copy the video from the V1 track and want to put it on the V2 by turning off the V1 track "Toggle target V1"  and you paste the video, it pastes on that track where you took it from in this case on V1. For more clarity I uploaded a video example please check, there are 2 versions of Premiere the old one and the new one, and how the button works. (in the uploaded video I'm using a ctrl+C and ctrl+V shortcut)

yeah, I deleted the shortcut and it works now. But I can't find out the usability of this function because "paste to the same track" works only when you use a shortcut and it doesn't appear in the upper panel -> edit.

It means they changed the ctrl+V "paste" shortcut to ctrl+V "insert to same track" and it's difficult to find out what going on without reading the documentation. I think every update must be easy to understand and easy to use.

As far as being aware of new features without having to read the user guide or check the New Features web page goes, as of Premiere Pro 2024 we have "Explore what's new" at the upper right of the Home window (the button looks like a wrapped gift box).

This was not around when the new paste behavior was introduced, but at least new features are easier find.

If you're not already doing this, I would consider disabling "remove old versions" when installing a new version.  This makes it much easier to move to the prior version should there be something in the new version that you're not ready to explore or learn about yet.

Having the full paste options in the Edit menu is a good idea.  If you submit that as a feature request, please link back to it here and I'll vote for it.
