Premiere Pro 23.0 installed, but not visible in CC Desktop

I have the 24.2.1 version of Premiere on my Windows 11, but whenever I try open a file made on the same version of Premiere from another PC/Mac. Message displays saying that can't open the project file because it was made on a newer version.

Similarly, After Effects is installed on it 24.2.1 version and Premiere won't let me import AE comps.

Creative Cloud shows its the 24.2.1 version installed. I have uninstalled and re-installed multiple times and it won't work.

Addiotionally, whenever I open a file made on my local Premiere (which again says its 24.2.1) on another PC/Mac with the same Premiere Pro 2024 version, it says it has to convert the project file to the newer version. Confirming that while Creative Cloud states its the 2024 version that its installed. Its working as if its the 2023 version.

This may have resolved itself?? As I was looking for the info I indeed saw that it said 23.1.0. *But* I cllicked the "open app" on the CC app and I open Premiere 2024. It seems like I had both versions installed despite CC only showing the 2024 version and whenever I opened a file made on 2024 it opened Premiere 2023 and displayed the "can't open because newer version" message.

I'll keep testing this and try to uninstall my Premiere 2023 version. Guess my doubt now is why it doesn't show up on t

Bizarre!
Send me a .prproj that elicits this behavior?

Are you selecting a project file and opening from that (rather than opening PR and opening the project from PR)?

I ran into an issue where the version of PR used to open a file was not the latest/current version. I never did sort this out, but I discovered while troubleshooting a user's issue - I never open a project that way routinely.

If you are doing that, you can test by clicking OK on that message, then in PR, Help -> About. Check the version that was opened.

Obviously, test by opening PR 24.2.1 and open the project from there.

Here's a .prproj file I made on the Premiere Pro version that, acording to Creative Cloud, is 2024, while everything else states and fuctions as 2023.

This happens with any project I create on my computer.

I've had that issue on a Mac.

A bit more context: doing home-office I use my own Laptop running Windows 11, and on the office I use a Mac. On Laptop I only have one version installed of Premiere, CC says its the 24.2.1. While on the office I have both versions, 24.2.1 or 2024; and a 2023 version to workaround this issue, but since I'm doing a project with After Effects, working around the issue on my laptop is an increased trouble.

Anyhow, I've tried that on the Mac to open a file I plan on continuing at home. Opening it directly on the Premiere 2023 version, rather than double clicking the file.

My issue is my Creative Cloud states that Premiere Pro is "up to date with the latest version", showing its the 24.2.1. But it's working as so.

Opening in 24.2.1. opens just fine: has to convert from previous version.

Previous version is 41 ( no idea which version that is, lost count).

The guts of that .prproj say it was created in, and last modified by, PPro 23.1.0:

<MZ.BuildVersion.Created>23.1.0x86 - 20/03/2024 11:24:58 a. m.</MZ.BuildVersion.Created>
<MZ.BuildVersion.Modified>23.1.0x86 - 20/03/2024 11:28:31 a. m.</MZ.BuildVersion.Modified>

>whenever I open a file made on my local Premiere (which again says its 24.2.1)...

Confirming: Where are you finding that version number, of your local PPro?

Glad you got it sorted!
Different major versions of PPro can peacefully coexist, but should be visible in CC Desktop, like this:

We can sort that out. 🙂

You mention de-/re-installing; you mean PPro? If you haven't done so already, I'd recommend de-/re-installing CC Desktop itself.

PS: Doing so will make you reinstall all CC apps as well, generating some tedium and progress bars; sorry about that, but it's worth trying.

Hi Bruce,

I have the same problem and thought that uninstalling and reinstalling Premiere would be a good solution. When I did that, Premiere shows up as an option for me on the web version of Adobe and then is not even available on the Adobe Creative Cloud App.

I have unistalled and reinstalled the creative cloud app several times, followed the directions for error code 305 and used the creative cloud cleaner tool and that says everything is ok.

I really need to edit some files for a deadline and I am frustrated.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thank you!!!

Aimee

@eepsDAB,

> should I edit the title of the post

Don't worry about it. A moderator (I'm not one) can make a change if it makes a big difference.

Normally, you can edit a post. You may be too new to the forum to have that function yet. (When you can,  you'll see 3 dots and the Word "More" at the bottom of your post. Click on that and you'll see Edit Post.)
