Premiere Pro 25.0 Crashing While Working in a Project

New Here ,
Oct 17, 2024 Oct 17, 2024

Having big problems with version 25.0.

Open a project to work in it, the project opens fine, but then after 1- 2 minutes Premiere Pro will crash.

Sometimes I manage to make a change in the project - other times I don't even change anything, PP will just crash.

The project was originally created in version 24.x

The project is large - a 1hr+ interview with several morph cuts. (The morph cuts were mostly ok in the old version btw, just needed a bit of tweaking.)

I can no longer access 24.x as while trying to fix this issue myself reinstalled all my adobe creative cloud apps and tried repairing the creative cloud desktop app. (Adobe removes access to older versions if you do this.)

I'd like to try any of the following

1 - find out how to get back the previous version of premiere pro

or

2 - ?? suggestions??

  1. Version of the app: 25.0
  2. Platform and OS version: Windows 11 Pro, 23H2, 64 bit
  3. Basic steps to reproduce the problem: Open a project and try to get some work done. (Other factors that might be related - the project should be large and should contain 5+ morph cuts.)
  4. Expected result and actual result: I expect to be able to open my project and continue working on it, from transcript edits to morph cut improvements. I actually get one word edited in the transcript and PP will crash and close, or I get everything open...and it will crash, or I open my project and start playback and it will crash. Sometimes premiere pro will ask to send a crash report - i have consistently sent crash reports.

Hi @Sacha243851799e1s,

Thanks for the bug report. I hope the team will respond shortly. Please give them more information. See, How do I write a bug report?

You may want to finish the project using the previous version to troubleshoot this issue. Version 24 is available to install on the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Let me or the community know if you need help with the reinstallation process.

Hi @Sacha243851799e1s,

You may want to finish the project using the previous version to troubleshoot this issue. Version 24 is available to install on the Creative Cloud desktop app.

Let me or the community know if you need help with the reinstallation process.

To move forward, as an editor, most take the following actions.

Press Shift at launch to get the Reset Options dialog box.

  1. Delete the media cache.
  2. Launch without third-party plugins.
  3. Reset the plugin loading cache.
  4. Reset Preferences.

Press one or more options and press Continue. I would probably try all four things. You may want to back up the preferences file to back up the customizations for the app held by the preferences.

Restore the project

  1. Delete the media cache (see previous step)
  2. Create a new project.
  3. Import the previous project into the new project.

Please let us know how the project behaves after you try the above steps.

In the future, consider that many editors try to finish up large and complex projects in the software in which they began the project and then upgrade it. You could call that an "editors' rule of thumb." You wouldn't get that advice in the user guide, but you can get that from salty old editors like me. 🙂

I hope we can help you get back on track. You're in good hands. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin
