Premiere Pro alters subtitle timestamps

When I add a srt file in the timeline, Premiere pro alters some timestamps. See the example attached. The original file have this separeted sentences:

135
00:16:56,878 --> 00:17:05,193
enquanto ainda acordado, as dúvidas não
surgirão. Samadhi é o próprio estado natural.

136
00:17:05,192 --> 00:17:13,903
Ele é a subcorrente em todos os três estados. O Ser
não está nesses estados, mas esses estados estão nele.

BUT premiere pro do this:

132
00:16:56,05 --> 00:17:13,05
enquanto ainda acordado, as dúvidas não
surgirão. Samadhi é o próprio estado natural.

Ele é a subcorrente em todos os três estados. O Ser
não está nesses estados, mas esses estados estão nele.

This occurs about 6 times in a video of 20 minutes. I work with English and Portugues subtitles. The bug happens only in Portuguese ones.

Premiere version: 24.1.0 (Build 85) (It always happened to me, even in previous versions)

Operational System: Windows 10, Version 10.0.19045 Compilation 19045.

To reproduce the problem, drag and drop a Portuguese srt subtitle in a Premiere timeline. After that, search for subtitle excerpts bigger than the maximum of the original file (in my case, all exerpts of subtitle have from 1 to 2 lines, so, if I find an excerpt bigger than 2, the problem is proved. The desired result would be that all timestamp and excerpts of the subtitle, in timeline, are equal to the original srt file.

(sorry for my English)

Gabriel,

Your timecodes are overlapping, so PR combines them.

Caption 135 ends with timecode 00:17:05,193 which is one millisecond AFTER the beginning timecode of Caption 136 - 00:17:05,192.

You can fix this by changing one or the other - e.g. make the end of 135 191 milliseconds.

If you had many of these, I would use something like Subtitle Edit which has a "fix common problems" tool.

Hi @Stan Jones, Thank you for the response! However, the issue persists, even if I correct the timecodes as you suggested. I think when I posted this question, I accidentally typed the overlapping timecode by hand. Both timecodes ended in 192. Working on another project right now, I saw that the error repeated with another subtitle file, where one timecode ends at 00:13:39.222, and the other starts at 00:13:39.221 (the same). I tried adjusting the first one to 00:13:39.221, but the problem continued.

Hi @Stan Jones ! I took a look again and I was wrong about this project I'm working right now. The PR did not combined any caption. So, I think that your answer was really 100% right. I could not edit or delete my previous message, where I said, wrongly, that the problem persists today. Thans again!

Gabriel,

Excellent! This can be very confusing.
