Premiere Pro - at it again!

Even though I've given up on Premiere Pro for Resolve - I like to keep it updated. So lets see... installing version 24...error - error - error! 3 Times I had to throw it away and re-download.  Am I suprised?! Nah. Premiere is still running on its original engine.

I put a Red File on the timeline and it plays fine - I add the slightest bit of color correcdtion and it starts to studder. Same clip, same SSD drive, I put that same clip into Resolve - heavily color correct and it still plays like butter.  I don't understand how anyone would use Premiere when there is Resolve. Resolve does everything premiere does only better!

Not everyone gets the same issues you do, by a long shot. Most of the several million daily users of Premiere been clearly able to install and work away. Are there some bugs for some users? Certainly.

But then, as I also work daily in Resolve, and work for/with/teach colorists based mostly in Resolve, I'm also on the LGG and BlackMagic forums daily. With all the Resolve issues listed by users there. And the complaint that it's becoming "just like Adobe ... ".

I have no issues on my main system with either Resolve or Premiere, both run fine. My four-year old Acer Triton laptop runs Premiere fine, but is such a dog with Resolve that I removed it from the computer. I've know of other users with a nearly identical desktop to mine, where Resolve runs fine and Pr not so much.

There's a ton of variance out there.

Oh, and as color work is kinda a thing for me, I run a lot of different media, including Red, BRAW, Arri files, others ... and don't have a problem whatever with playback from doing pretty heavy color. For Premiere, of course.

Though I can make it do things in color that a lot of others don't think it can. Takes work, thinking, testing, a good surface panel, and a ton of poking the box. And taking things forth and back between Pr and Resolve to check how they match, work, and ... export.

And don't take it that I'm trying to minimize what happened on yours. Just ... it's not everyones' experience. Doesn't mean it's any less annoying for you, certainly.

Get a Mac. All your problems will go away when it comes to resolve!
What can Premier pro do that resolve can’t? I believe the answer to that is, nothing. So you work really hard and you get decent color out of premier… That’s like shoveling your driveway with your hands… When there’s a shovel right next to you.

Quite a few noted editors note that many keyboard shorts and certain tasks exist in Premiere but not yet in Resolve. Which is true.

For now, Premiere still has a few things more than Resolve for editing. For how long? Don't know.

Text based editing has certainly been a huge gain in Premiere.

The UI in Premiere is vastly more customizable, and that's one thing that still keeps me more in Premiere than Resolve. I simply, as a personal thing, dislike Resolve's locked down UI.

And I prefer the way I can map my Tangent Elements panel to about anything. Not just a very few color things, as BlackMagic intentionally leaves other control surfaces pretty limited. Remember, Resolve is a loss leader to get you to buy BM kit. Which is fine, it's how they make their money. But I prefer the Elements panel.

In Premiere I can use that for track mixing audio, sizing placing rotation of any screen element including graphics work. All sorts of things.

Although thanks to Tangent, they now have software to use their panels in Resolve without nearly the limitations of the Resolve devs.

I work for/with/teach pro colorists mostly based in Resolve. I'm on the LGG and BM forums daily. Resolve is a good app especially in color of course. But then, Resolve is a color grading app that's been added onto.

Premiere was built as an editing app, with other supplemental app like Audition and Ae.

I still say killing SpeedGrade was a bad choice by Adobe but oh well.

And I can work in Resolve. I just don't like it. But good friends LOVE it. Different tastes and needs.
