Premiere Pro crashing after updating to 25.0 and have no way to export my project

Hi,

It sounds like several others are experiencing this but I wanted to share my situation in hopes of it helping others and/or the developers.

After updating from the latest 24.x version of premiere to 25.0, my new project file crashes constantly (during project startup, in the middle of editing, or, most importantly now, when I try to export the project) and sometimes the project file is recoverable, sometimes it's not. I have made countless "save as" files to ensure I don't lose all my work.

Version number: 25.0

OS: Windows 10 Pro

About: 12th gen Intel(R) i7 3.60GHz, 32GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060, the project file and 95% of the media is on an internal m.2 SSD 2TB although it is almost out of storage, so a few clips are on USB 3.0 external hard drives.

Footage: Canon RAW (.CRM) and Canon h.265 MP4, and ProRes uncompressed from DaVinci Resolve (brought back to Premiere after color grading)

Sequence: five minutes, simple cuts with no effects (although some warp stabilizer) and some simple titles (created from properties panel). There is one error I get regarding a sound effect on the timeline, reading "File importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure of *file name*. Reading and writing this file's XMP has been disabled."

Steps to reproduce: Open Premiere Pro with admin approval (initially turned off, but began doing this as a hopeful workaround which hasn't proven to make a difference), select the project file I'd like to open, and Premiere will sometimes crash once it has loaded the project. If it didn't crash, then it may crash a few minutes later while editing (simple cuts, playing back footage, etc). If I've made it this far without it crashing, then when I go to the export page and select my settings (h.264, MP4, VBR 2 pass, both max render quality and depth enabled, output location to my desktop (separate SSD from project file and media), and I click export, Premiere Pro crashes immediately every time. It pops up with an error menu (no code). If I send the file to After Effects (V25.0.1), After Effects then crashes and provides me with the same error menu.

Thanks all.

Hi @LD Productions

Welcome to the Premiere Pro forums! We are glad to see you here. We need a few more details to try to help with the issue.  So you are exporting new videos out of Resolve to bring back into Premiere Pro correct? Is the project that is crashing coming from an XML that imports your new files? And have you tried to export the same file type out of Resolve after grading? If you can share the project file without the media I can have the team try and repo the crash.

Thanks for sub

Make sure drives are no more filled up than 80%

The kind of footage you are editing is not very edit friendly.

Try CBR, max render and bit depth unchecked, dedicated folder on dedicated drive.

Things you can try:

Trash media cache

Make new project and import old one.

Hey Ian,

I should have been more clear regarding Resolve - I used an XML to bring it from Premiere to Resolve, then actually exported that file out of Resolve as a ProRes and brought that exported ProRes into Premiere to then export out as an h.264 with all my audio & graphics.

I ended up downgrading the project file to 24.x and was able to finish and export the project that way with no issues so I am all set, although I am not planning to use V25.0 until the next update comes out that hopefully addresses this issue.

Thanks!

I am currently working on a project in the final stages of exporting, and it has taken me at least 2 or 3 days of work just to get 70% of the entire project exported.

Now I'm stuck, Premiere closes automatically when I start exporting, even when I open the project, the program is extremely slow and several times it has crashed just clicking somewhere in the timeline.

I have tried every way I know how to export:

- Using Media encoder
- Using premiere export
- with and without GPU Hardware Acceleration
- Exporting in parts (First the video media, then graphics and animations)
- I reset the default preferences
- Cleared the cache
- Tested older versions of Premiere (24.6.3)
- I freed up space on the hard disk where I work

None of these options really help.

My pc:
- Windows 10
- 32gb RAM
- Ryzen 5 3600x
- RX 6600XT

I really don't know what to do anymore, I have delayed this project for almost a week just because Adobe doesn't want to work.

Hey @Neptuno32843854uezh sorry you're experiencing the same / similar issue. What ended up working for me was downgrading the project to 24.6.3 but looks like that isn't working for you. I wish I had a better answer for you!
