I have this issue in premiere pro and premiere pro beta where the whole system crashes instantly when a select a clip in the timeline panel. It has happened more than 20 times now, and makes all editing impossible. I am at a wits end as to how I am supposed to edit in Premiere pro anymore, it has been incredibly unreliable over the years, using multiple different devices, and I am really consdering switching to an alternative editing software.
I will attach a screenshot for reference, I have tried so many different things to fix it, but nothing seems to work.
I need help fast, i am rapidly running out of time to get this video done.

same issue. Running a 2020 Macbook Pro, 16GB, sonoma 14.4. SHould be enough, but when I select certain clips on the timeline, it instantly crashes. IS there a workaround?

If its both in the regular and beta version try to make a new project and import old one.
also trash media cache.

It is obviously one of the updates in the beta version that introduced this poison pill. So I started workign in the regualr Premiere Pro, which I haven't updated in probably six months. It worked, so I wont update it from now on. Also, I work on a macbok pro. If I export the assets I'm going to use in PRPR in iMovie initially, they seem to work in PRPR withoout crashign anything. it's the assets originaly outputted or preparedin PRPR that cause the problems. This isn't very scientific, but it's how I've solved it.

I had already updated both, Is there a way to undo the updates?

I have no idea. I had a similar problem after one of the Topaz video AI updates, and I contacted topaz suppoert. They sent me a link to a pervious version and it worked. I wish Adobe would pay attention to this and solve the problem.

Does this happen when you select the same clip or it happens randomly to any clip on your timeline?

It happens for me when I select certain clips, but not others. For instance, if I select a video clip to move it, and premiere instantly crashes. Other clips aren't affected.

If you remove the clips that are causing the crash and leave only the ones that don’t crash, does Premiere behave normally?
If so, the problem might be with the clips themselves, not with Premiere directly.
Try transcoding those clips before importing them. Use Adobe Media Encoder or Handbrake, and convert them to something like DNxHR or ProRes. Then test again with the transcoded versions and see if the issue goes away.

WHy do you have to go through all that? A month ago, this didn't happen. I just want a version of premiere where you don't have to go to any special lengths. But I did find that if I output the trouble clips in Imovie first, then they work in premiere. However, using an earlier version of premiere means I don't have to do that. I'll stick with an older version.

Yes, i have been using the same camera for years with the same codecs, settings etc, and its been the last two projects that have had this happen. the idea of the clips being the problem did occur to me, i will try that idea though as all other suggestions have not worked thus far.

Same for me, some clips seem to work fine, ut i only have to select certain clips and it crashes instantly.

Can you share one of the problem clips?
When you got the crash report/report to Adobe, did you send it with your email? Staff can find that and troubleshoot.

Hello, I will give that a crack.

Where would I attach?

You write down what and how it happened and hit the Send Report button

Oh sorry, so you don't mean send the troublesome clip/s in the report?
My misunderstanding.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, two different things. The crash report needs your email address, preferably the one you use here. A brief description with a link to this thread is all you need.
And posting a link in a post here to a problem file might help.
