Premiere Pro LUT [Edited by moderator]

Hi,

I'm trying and reading everything about the right locations for the Premiere Pro LUTs. I have plenty of them and PP will not find them. Well that's not completely correct: There are maybe 50 LUTs PP has found, the other LUTs will be ignored.

10 Minutes ago, I tried again to copy the LUTs in the right folder and now, I only have 25 LUTs visible..

WHY ist this still a problem?

In the meantime I have 3 PPs: 2023, 2024 and beta - and I copied my LUTs in every folder or I created a new one. But it doesn't work.

This is really a joke, isn't it?

Never ever add LUTs to the Program Files Lumetri folder.

That location is only accessed by relative position in the folder after computer alphanumeric sorting. Never by the name of the LUT, and if you add LUTs, you've just changed the order. So a LUT that was used prior isn't now ... because you added a LUT or LUTs before it.

They have a chart. USE either of the two locations in their chart for this.

You will need to normally add the last folder set ... Input, Technical (Basic tab) and Creative. Then park your LUTs there as you will use them in the program.

Premeire scans them on launch, and does not add things visibly that you have added since it last launched.

So the next time you open Premiere it will see the LUTs.

Out of curiousity, what do you use them for?

I dont get it. After using the right place some of the LUTs were missing...

Why isn't there an easy button to import LUTs? Like for brushes in Photoshop?

I use it for quick color ideas and then work from there.

And why is it so different in After Effects?

I would appreciate an easy load process also. But what they do have does work.

I use the Program Files/Common/Adobe/ and etc. location from their chart. I have used that for over a decade now. Without any troubles, either. I've added and of course removed a lot of LUTs over that time.

Theres' some really annoying things though, like ... with some other preset things ... you can't "refresh" anything to get Premiere to see them after you've loaded while Premiere is open.

For example, say you create a LUT in Lumetri, then save it to the correct location. Now you need to close Premiere and re-launch before it will see that LUT. Which is darned annoying.

All my LUTs (in 23 additional folders) are in this main folder (as recommended by Adobe):  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Common\LUTs\

But I can only see the first folder and maybe five LUTs from the next folder when I go to Lumetri>Creative>Look.

Is it because I copied the LUTs to a thousand different places to make it work? Do I need to delete them?

Ok ... the Creative tab will only see LUTs in the Creative folder, right?

This system will not show LUTs in subfolders ... sadly. So only the LUTs in that main Creative folder will show in the Creative tab LUT slot dropdown.

And it's the same for Input and Technical folders as well. The Input folder only used for Input CM stuff, and Technical for the Basic tab.

None of them will see LUTs in subfolders, and yea, that is a total pain. Many of us have been asking for years now for the ability to organize by subfolders. But we still don't have that.

I do recommend going to the "Idea" section of this forum, and searching for LUT subfolder requests, and upvoting them.

LATEST

Now something new happened. I got the message: wrong menu command and then After Effects crashes. The Creative tab in AE no longer has a menu. I can only click to activate it but then nothing happens.

I updated to the latest version (2025) but everything remains the same.

In Premiere I can see the same (few) LUTs as before but now when I try to change them with the mouse wheel the explorer appears.

I used the correct path from Adobe. I'm so upset that now I'm going to learn to do the color correction manually. Thanks Adobe!
