Hi All.
I have a zillion stills to organise into bins. I've imported all my stills into one bin called Main Stills. Viewing this bin in icon view, I've been moving quite a few clips at a time from here to new bins in order to organise them all. The clips now appear in the new bin, but my massive headache is that when I look back to my Main Stills bin - the orginal clip is still there - instead of moving the clips - Premiere has simply copied them to the new bin - then I end up with a ga-zillion duplicates!!! (revealing in finder from both bins, points to the same file). During my lockdown I decided to finally master Premiere - so far its going really bad - I just want to organise my project!!!! Can anyone shed any light as to why Premiere copies and doesn’t move clips from bin to bin? I’m running Premiere Pro v13.1.3: I haven’t downloaded the latest version yet as I keep hearing that it’s to be avoided because of too many bugs - but this version’s really bugging me!!! (incidentally, when I try to 'reveal sequence in project', nothing happens. If I reset the workspace to saved layout, somehow it gives my Premiere bug a kick. Reveal sequence in Project again... and it works! Too many bugs! Should I just stick to Avid????? 😞

First, you can always update to a new version and test it. Unlike Resolve, you can have multiple versions installed for completely different versions like 13.x and 14.x. And ... there will always be bugs, in every program, all the time. Test yourself, most users are not having any major issue if they're having any at all.
Are these bins in the same project, or do you have a separate project open? That would be the main suspect in copying not moving assets, is that you have two projects open.

Hi Neil. Thanks for your reply. Sorry it took so long - your reply ended up in my mail junk folder. I'll try and download a later version to see if it solves the problem. It's just frustaring that this is just basic bin managemnet that is delaying me - I haven't even got cutting yet!! Cheers. Brian

The behavior you're describing is typically from dragging from one project to another project, not within a project.
The exception is a search bin, which is a "temporary" bin, and therefore only provides a copy of things to access quickly, that are actually stored elsewhere in the project.

Stick with whatever works or whatever... who cares ??
In Resolve 15 I've had weird stuff happen when moving clips from master bin to specialized bins ( smart bins, etc. ) ... where the master bin still has the same file named there. It's not a duplicate file. It's a duplicate FILE NAME. I don't go into the master bin after organizing stuff cause I already made my choices re: what clips to use ( now in their own little happy bins below master ). And I NEVER use thumbnail view of files.... ( clips ) as that would be ( for ME ) a total waste of space etc. I already KNOW what the thing is... and don't need a cartoon thumbnail to remind me.

Anyway, before going bonkers here... the idea that clips are being duplicated in bins is silly.... so get that out of your head.

I found the same behavior. Not able to use copy / paste to move clips from bin A to bin B. In Premiere the clips (references to clips, not the actual files, I know) are duplicated, and when removing 'm from bin A, they dissappear from the timeline, because the copies are treated as new clips.
Simple remedy should be to add a Move command to move clips from one bin to another, without having to drag which is unconvenient in large projects.
