Premiere Pro UI acts up after importing image

I am currently making a video that I would like to add images to. When I do, the UI practically stops working. The player head doesn't move along when I drag it, opening a project won't load tools or video sequence unless I press File, effect folders won't drop down until I press File, and the Effect Controls on the top left won't drop down any of the Fx bars. Anyone know what is causing this or is this just a software issue?

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:

Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.

Do your pictures have a very large pixel size? Are they in RGB format?

I don't believe it's a large size. The image I am trying to implement is 1280 x 720, a PNG file, and is 103 KB. Also yes, they are in RGB mode.
