Premiere Pro: Video playback stops, application keeps running

Hi All,

Lately I have had a problem with Premiere Pro (V23.6) that the video playback suddenly stops working. After this happens then trying to scrub through the video, the image of the video doesn't change.

The issue seems to appear after giving input commands of fast playback and stop and play again to quickly or after scrubbing to much. There are also other moments that are pretty random that it happens with no explanation at all.

Funny thing is that the Premiere application keeps running and I am able to save or publish projects and do literally everything, including shutting down Premiere Pro safely, except playing the video.

Has anybody faced this problem and able to help?

I am running on a Windows based machine with a lot of horse power.

I am also having this issue with 23. All of a sudden it stops being able to play. I can save the project, move clips around and do anything except play the timeline. The only thing that fixes it is restarting premiere. I am on a very powerful PC. I can't even figure out if it is a specific action that causes it. It seems to be random.
