Merci,

Bonjour Clotilde,

Sorry. That is strange. What happens if you try ProRes LT for your proxy format?

Thanks,
Kevin

Dear Clotilde,

I think I see the issue now. I think you need to create a custom preset for your proxies, a preset for 1080 x 1920. The instructions are here: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/ingest-proxy-workflow.html Let me know if you need help creating such a preset.

Thanks,
Kevin

Bonjour, j'ai déjà suivi les instructions de ce lien sans succès. Il est probable que je me sois trompé en cours de route. Pouvez-vous m'aider à créer un preset adapté ?

Hi Clotilde,

I copied the crucial steps on creating a custom proxy preset from the user guide. You're right. The steps are not that easy to follow. I hope it works for you now. Let me know.

First, create an encoding preset, then use that preset as a basis for your ingest preset. This ingest preset is used to create your proxy files in the Creative Proxies dialog box.

Create an Encoding Preset

Make a custom Encoding preset for your Proxy workflow. It is needed to create an Ingest preset for your custom proxy. Create the preset in Adobe Media Encoder.

How to create a new Encoding preset

  1. Launch Adobe Media Encoder.
  2. In the Preset Browser in Adobe Media Encoder, click the plus sign (+) and choose to Create Encoding Preset or Preset > Create Encoding Preset. This step opens the Encoding Preset Settings dialog box.
  3. Under Preset Name, name your preset. Add comments if you like.
  4. Format, choose QuickTime.
  5. Leave Based on Preset set as "New Preset."
  6. Make any comments, if desired.
  7. Video codec: Apple ProRes 422 Proxy
  8. In the Video tab, make any changes to the frame size. In the example for an Instagram Story (or the like), we use 1080 x 1920.
  9. When you finish all sections of the Encoding Presets dialog box, press OK to save it in Adobe Media Encoder.
  10. To use your newly created Encoding Preset, export the preset from Adobe Media Encoder to disk.
  11. To do this, right-click (WIN) or Ctrl-click (Mac OS) the desired preset in the Adobe Media Encoder Preset Browser and select Export Preset.
  12. Select a location on the disk for the file.
  13. You can also select a preset in the Adobe Media Encoder Preset Browser and choose Preset > Export.
  14. Use this Encoding Preset as the basis for your Ingest preset.

Create an Ingest Preset

You can make a custom ingest preset for your Proxy workflow. Create the preset in Adobe Media Encoder.

How to create a new Ingest preset

  1. Launch Adobe Media Encoder.
  2. In the Preset Browser in Adobe Media Encoder, click the plus sign (+) and choose to Create Ingest Preset or Preset > Create Ingest Preset. This step opens the Ingest Preset Settings dialog box.
  3. Under Preset Name, name your preset. Add comments if you like.
  4. Enable the Transcode files to Destination option. Then, select a location for new files to be placed under the Destination dropdown menu. You can then select the output type under the Format dropdown menu. The list of available encoding presets appears under the Preset dropdown menu, including the custom encoder preset you just created.
  5. When you are finished with all sections of the Ingest Presets dialog box, press OK to save it in Adobe Media Encoder.
  6. To use your newly created Ingest Preset in Premiere Pro's Create Proxies dialog box, export the preset from Adobe Media Encoder to disk.
  7. To do this, right-click (WIN) or Ctrl-click (Mac OS) the desired preset in the Adobe Media Encoder Preset Browser and select Export Preset.
  8. Select a location on the disk for the .epr file.
  9. You can also select a preset in the Adobe Media Encoder Preset Browser and choose Preset > Export.
  10. In the Create Proxies dialog box in Premiere Pro, click the Import Ingest Preset button and navigate to the preset.
  11. See that the new preset is available in the Create Proxies dialog box.

I hope this helps!

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Clotilde,

Yes, the proxy files are often larger in file size than the originals because they are not as compressed. You can also use H.264 and make them smaller in frame size with the same aspect ratio. You can experiment to see what works best for you.

Thanks,
Kevin
