Hi all,
does anyone have a solution to this pls.
I have video clips that - maybe due to being oved around or reorganised on the drives - Premiere has become confused by the path names.
So what should be:File Path: /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Volumes/HAWKING/<<<Grimsey/<<<PROXY RUSHES/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_032/GRM_2055
has become:
File Path: /Volumes/Macintosh HD/Volumes/HAWKING/<<<Grimsey/<<<PROXY RUSHES/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_020/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_021/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_022/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_023/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_024/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_025/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_026/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_027/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_028/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_030-GOF/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_031-GOG/Trip 4 proxy/GRM_T4_032/GRM_2055
I have no idea how many clips have suffered this fate, but all I do know is that it makes it impossible to transfer and conform with an XML.
I have tried deleting the caches, but that doesnt work.
We are talking about 200 hrs of material btw.
Anyone have a simple solution?
Many thanks

Hi @advpics,
Thanks for the question. Have you tried using the Link media dialog box? You can make the legacy clips offline and then relink them to media in the new location. If you've tried that already, then let me know. You may want to try with a small sample of the clips and media to see if it might work first. Let me know. Sorry for the frustration on this one.
Thanks,
Kevin.

Hi Kevin,
I have tried the link media dialogue box. I took everything off line, then did a "clean" reconnect. Theoritically it works, but it still has multiple confusions with the path.
I also cleared the cache. And wondered if there is a way to erase the preferences, and then reload the footage? The project has been ongoing for 2 years now (documentary) and so the folders have been moved around multiple times. I think this is the issue. It is like it remembers the previous paths and somehow adds them to the new path.
Let me know if you can think of a workaround It would be most appreciated!!
Best,
Nikolai

@Kevin-Monahan any luck finding a possible solution? This is a very old bug. I was part of the beta testers when Productions was being designed, and that was actually supposed to cure this issue.
Just to say, all my rushes are in a Rushes project, and the Edits are in an Edit project contained within the Production. I believe that was the way to work.

So I found a dirty workaround. I unlink all the rushes - move each rushes folder to a new location on the same drive - relabel it - then go back and reconnect. Should be only half a days work...
Can someone flag this up pls. 🙂
Thanks

Nope, that ALMOSt worked but not quite.
So Here is an XML and there is a rogue dot in the path now which stops it conecting to the conform rushes. @Kevin-Monahan any ideas?

@Kevin-Monahan tested on a small XML. this is the problem line. a random dot ./ is causing the issues.

I'm sorry this is such a huge debacle for you and others with the same issue. What do you think of this feature request? https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-ideas/export-relative-file-paths-custom-name-engine/idi-....
I will let the devs know about your problem on the XML. Sorry for the issue.
Thanks,
Kevin

Hey @Kevin-Monahan
thanks for the reply and that post.
I think that is even too complicated. The program just needs to inherently update its file path when the project loads. If the file paths have changed, it will ask to reconnect, and then update the abolute path. Also, we had to rename files mid-job since Sony FX3 and A74 camera insist on file naming C001 every time you format a card. Same with GoPro.
So we had to batch add prefixes to the filenames.
Premiere took the files off line - no problem there (expected)
I reconnected the files. Problem 1. The file names in the project bin did not update to the new file names. But the path did update.
Again, if there was a regular updating of names and paths build into the process, it would solve loads of issues.
Thats my 2 cents 🙂

In recent versions of PP hold down shift while starting PP and you can delete prefs and a few other items.

Nice. thanks for the tip. Will give it a go.

Sadly no luck. XML is still getting confused and importing duplicates to the conform.

Hi @advpics,
I found a relevant post. See if it might contain a solution or workaround for you: https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/changing-absolute-paths-to-relative-paths-in....
Let me know!

Hey Kevin,
thank you so much. I did actually try this but it continued to get confused. The solution I have used at the moment, is to off line everything, move the folders, relabel them, and then do a reconnect.
Weirdly, some of the files still have the rogue ./ adding a blank path in the middle of the full path. Cannot for the life of me work out the logic so far.
Thank you for continuing to hunt.
I have managed to get some of the timelines out, so thats my work cut out for the moment.
🙂
Best,
Nikolai
