Hello, I don't know if it's just me, but previously, when I would ripple delete, or clear a part of the video, the video would also shorten by that length. However, now it just keeps the video length the same as the original file even if I ripple delete, which ends up meaning there is just black nothingness for minutes or hours that I have to trim out by editing the length for the export. It was more convenient when it would just do it automatically. Is there something I am doing differently or is a change for Premiere Pro?

Are you sure there isn't a frame or two of video at the end that is on a locked track or a track that is excluded from the ripple delete?

When I do ripple delete though I usually just cut one video into two parts, and then delete the second or first part via ripple delete. Would that still be on a locked track? Since I just have one video file I use.

If there is only one track, locked tracks should not be the issue. Do you have a work area bar or in and out points set?
