Scaling question with nested seqs / multi-cam seqs

Participant ,

Hi - Say I've got a sequence set to 1080p, using UHD footage so all the footage is scaled to 50% on the timeline.

Then I bring that sequence into another multi-cam sequence as a multi-cam clip, also a 1080p seq, but then the footage shows up as scaled 100%.

Fine. But, if I need to punch in a bit occasionally (why we've shot in UHD) that means I'm going > 100%.

Q is - am I losing resolution here? I assume not but it's slightly confusing!

Let me know if you have any insight here - many thanks! David

Yes, you will lose resolution in this way.

Leave your main sequence at 1080p. Open your nest, and change its sequence settings to UHD. Go back to your main sequence, and scale the nest to 50%. This way, when you need to rescale, you won't lose any resolution.

thanks - if I do this then the footage shows up wrong (2x) in the multiclip monitor - how do I fix that?

True, cause the multicam monitor reads what's inside the multiclip and not what's on your main timeline.

Alrenatively, leave your nest also at 1080p, scale your footage in the nest to 50%. While you're editing your main sequence, you'll notice that you're loosing some resolution when you rescale, just disregard it for now. Once you're done with you editing, select your multiclips and right click > multicam > flatten. You original footage will replace the multiclips with the scaling you applied, but you'll notice that no resolution was lost (since the rescaling is now applied to your original footage).
