Scripted preprocessing for social media clips

Hi All 👋
I'm not yet a Premiere user, checking out the most efficient option to automate basic Social Media clips. Input will always be the same: Less than 10 numbered, square and equal sized PNGs with transparent background. We want to pre-process these sequences identically.

  • Show a file-import dialogue (user browses for directory)
  • Detect the sequence in multi-selected images
  • Put images to the timeline, using the sequence numbers
  • Show all images for the same amount of time
  • Create an editable coloured background below each image
  • Add a few predefined text and vector elements to each slide
  • Apply transitions between images
  • Save Premiere project.

These basic compositions are intended for manual refinement. The cream topping was if one could point the macro to a whole folder with sets of numbered images and Premiere would pre-process them all.

From reading older forum posts, I learned that Premiere has no Macro-Recording as available as Photoshop Actions, but that one had to script this with Extend Script. Is this still correct?

Alternatives: Is someone of you aware if some simplified version of Premiere (Rush) maybe even Adobe Express offers such automations?

for Premiere Pro to automate all the tasks you mentioned, this is not currently available.

you can google or check here for some tools if any of them is of interest:

or suggest feature requests on the User Voice:

Thank you very much, Carlos. I'm glad I asked – I had really expected such to be possible and only wanted to hear how complex it is to code such with Extend Script.

That's not at all the same, but one could likely set up a template project with placeholder objects and mentioned vector graphics in the timeline, right?

you can definitely setup premiere pro template projects

with placeholders and graphics, for different uses,

so that you do not repeat same edits and processes

accross different projects.

Consider editing properties in the Essential Graphics panel.

You can even make much use of Mogrts, Motion Graphics Templates

that can be created in both Premiere Pro and After Effects...

Now for much more scripting and expressions capabilities,

as  well as advanced templates creation and motion graphics,

better go for After Effects, and from there,

you can export advanced animated mogrts to use inside Premiere Pro.

Thanks again, Carlos. My original idea was creating a process which can users with no video skills whatsoever can run. Final processing then by someone who knows about video editing. The placeholder process might be already too complex for total beginners / the Premiere-UI to intimidating. I'll have to go through this myself to judge.

Maybe using Premiere Rush or even Camtasia was more effective for us – as the actual editing doesn't even scratch the surface of Premiere's abilities. I had only thought of using it as I had assumed availability of advanced scripting.

I'm also a Vimeo Pro user, and what you're describing sounds like it might be possible with the Vimeo Create app. Worth looking into?
