Scroll zooms Program Monitor, slower mouse speed on scrubbing, adjusting transitions (24.5)

  1. In the program monitor window, the new zoom feature on mouse scroll is very frustrating and impossible to get used to. I would typically scrub through the timeline with the previously convenient and speedy mouse wheel method. The new update is adding a tremendous amount of time to completion of projects due to scrolling by accident on the program monitor preview area, then having to go back and readjust the program monitor to "Fit". PLEASE GIVE US THE ABILITY TO TURN THIS FEATURE ON AND OFF WITH THE NEXT UPDATE!  I realize that scrolling on the ruler area of the program monitor window is now the means of accomplishing a mouse scrub, but it is a very small and limited area to maintain the cursor and routinely slips off to the preview area.
  2. The speed at which the mouse wheel scrub is dramatically slower now, making it almost useless to use the mouse wheel scrub at all.  A was to adjust the scrub speed in the settings would be tremendously helpful!
  3. The new transition representation in the timeline is very difficult to get used to and to adjust transition lengths. It mostly seems counterintuitive and confusing and also lengthening my workflow. An option to go back to the original transition representation in the timeline would be most appreciated.
  4. After expressing all of this, I realize that the only answer is to revert to the previous version until some of these issues are addressed. Thank you for listening to my complaints.

Mod note: The title was changed for search purposes. Sorry for the frustration.

The changes to the Program monitor scrolling behavior is one of those things where there are many users ecstatic over the changes ... you now have three options, zoom in or out of the image, jog/scroll the clip, or change the 'magnification' of the timeline itself in the Program monitor.

All dependent on where you have the cursor when you scroll.

I get that for many, this is a wonderful help. Awesome, cool, I'm glad for them.

But like some, I'm not so pleased with it for my own use, and although I'm working with it ok, I would prefer the ability to turn this off.

And while in general I am so pleased we finally got the audio transition handles for crossfades like Audition has had ... the implementation has made it tricky to get to where you can simply trim the edit point, because you have very little space there 'free'.

You can turn off the Fx badges, which I used to use always. They were informative at a glance.

Now, they aren't informative at a glance, and the new location makes trimming a royal pain as so often you open an effects dialog when all you wanted to do was trim your cut.

So ... I simply turned them off, as they are no longer of use to me whatsoever.

The new Program monitor behavior is one of those things most frequently asked by After Effects users since years to be changed because you very often happen to zoom in or out unwillingly touching the scroll wheel 🙂

I do not like it and I immediatly promoted my keyboard shortcut "zoom to fit" from the CTRL+ALT-Level upwards.
