Hi! I work for a popular YouTube channel, and for years now we have dealt with a significant delay navigating the timeline when editing with polywav audio files. I've attached a video demonstrating the problem, in case you, like me, scoffed at the idea that audio could seriously slow down a timeline.
We do work with a lot of audio tracks in many of our productions, but the timeline navigation lag persists with even one track of polywav audio, which suggests to me that this is a software issue. Is Adobe aware of this problem? There is nothing I could find about this online, only suggestions relating to optimizing video performance that we already follow - i.e. work offline, off Pro Res proxies since we're on Macs, etc.
Since we haven't been able to find a solution, our workaround is to have the audio mixer record in mono, which requires a little more work to sync but saves editors from that frustrating delay moving about the timeline. Would love to hear from other folks to see if they have experienced this issue!
One of our editors tested multiple machines and the problem persisted in both. Specs below:
2019 iMac 3.7GHz 6 core i5 with 96gb of RAM, Radeon Pro 580x gpu with 8gb ram
A maxed out 2022 16” M1 Max MacBook Pro
