Hello everyone,
when I create a multicam sequence (2 videos) with external sound I get performance problems. When I click in the timeline or set a cut it takes a few seconds (freeze, hang) until something happens or the program crashes.
This should not normally happen.
The waveform cannot be displayed via the multicam sequence (unless it is rendered).
If I flatten the sound in the main sequence, I don't have a problem.
What could be the reason?
Could it have something to do with the fact that Premiere has a problem displaying the waveform directly? Which component is responsible for displaying the waveform? GPU or sound card?
System details:
Win 10
Intel Core ™ i7-6850K CPU 3.60 GHz
Nvidia Titan X
All drivers are up to date
Best regards
Sebastian

Thanks for the system specs but you didn't list anything about your source footage. What size and type of videos are you cutting? And what type of audio? Finally: what are the settings you've chosen in the Multicam dialogue box?

Hi,
thanks for replying.
The source material was recorded in 4K 25fps XAVC-I/h.264.
Proxy files are used for editing (ProRes LT 1280x720).
Sound comes from a MixPre-10 II, Wav. 48 kHz 32 bits float.
I synchronized the multicam sequence with inpoints.
Sequence Preset: Automatic, no processed clips bin - I like to manage that by myself. Audio: Sequence Settings on Cam 1 (no audio switching) and Audio Channel Preset Automatic.
But to be honest I don't understand what effect the multicam sequence settings have on the problem besides of the not activated audio switching?
The only thing that could be a problem from my point of view are the 32 bits float. However, I have had this problem in the past even without 32 bits float.

Are you using proxies when you attempt to playback? Those XAVC files can be a beast to edit with and I've seen instances where even attached ProRes proxies don't help.
My main concern though is the age of your system. All of your components are from 2016 and are at the bare minimum of the sytstem requirements; you may be up against the limits of this old computer.

Sorry for the late response. The proxies are definitely active. As I said, if the sound is deactivated, there are no problems with playback.
I had already thought about the old technology and requested a new PC from my boss. ^^
Nevertheless, I would be interested to know what the problem could be, because even with xavc I can normally still work very well. Only the multicam causes problems and only when the sound is added. If I make the sound flat, i.e. deactivate the multicam, everything works perfectly. It's not elegant but it works.

Just out of curiosity, what are the Audio setting s in your preferences? Specifically, do you have an audio input set to something that is actually not a microphone, or is it set to "none"?
