Source monitor shuttling and response faster than Program monitor

When I shuttle through a clip in the source monitor the video responds faster and more smoothly than in the program monitor. Even the audio levels respond more smoothly when I'm playing the source as opposed to the record. Anyone have any ideas and fixes?

I'm using:

Premiere 23.6.2

iMac 27" from 2020

72 GB RAM

12 TB Superspeed+ drive, with only 3.2 TB used.

(And I don't have anything else running that I know of)

Figure out the problem was the proxy badges setting. Somehow having it on was causing a major slowdown as I shuttled. Turned it off and now it's fine. Is this because I'm not using proxies?
