Stereo File is not played in stereo in the timeline

If I play a stereo file, for example music, in the timeline, it is not stereo.
I mean it's stereo but theres is no difference between left and right channel.
The audiometer equally declines left and right. So it's "fake-stereo"
If I play the file via match frame, the audio has different amplitudes for left and right. Its real stereo.
Also when I export the track it stays "fake-stereo".
As a complicated workaround I modified the audio channels of the file from one stereo to two mono
channels, then drop the file in timeline and pan audio track one to left and track two to right.
Then its real stereo!
Is there an easier soloution or something I'm missing?

Could you post a screenshot of the modify audio dialogue and of the track mixer.
