Text transparency for open captions in v. 22

I need to give a slight transparency to my open captions, so they melt better in with the video stream. Before the new captions workflow, it was possible to select the captions stream and in Effect Controls set an opacity.

But with the new workflow, this option is gone, and for captions there is no transparency setting in the Essential Graphics panel (which instead is available for single graphic/text elements).

The only workaround I have found is to nest the captions as separate sequence, then use Effect Controls to set the opacity. But this is impractical to work with and creates unnecessary workflow overhead.

Is there some other option I'm missing out on ?

I think you are correct. There are no options for the font fill opacity.

Nesting is the only direct workaround.
