Timeline freezes after creating captions

New Here ,
Apr 20, 2023 Apr 20, 2023

I can transcribe a sequence and everything still works fine. But as soon as I create Closed Captions my timeline locks up and freezes on the last frame it was on.

I have tried it on multiple different projects and reverted to old versions of premiere but the same issue persists. I'm very confused because this was not happening a few days ago and I'm not aware of any changes.

Has anyone else had this issue and found a fix?

MrCatnip (love the screenname!),

It is not common for this problem to occur on multiple versions, but possible.

What version of PR are you using? Help -> About Premiere Pro.

Please post a screenshot of the result of the transcription and the timeline after creation of captions.

Thanks for the follow up Stan.

I'm using version 22.6.3 (Build 2). That is the one of the versions I reverted to in attempt to see if that would fix.

Below is  a screenshot of the timeline after creating captions from the transcript. It appears normal but anytime I try and scrub through the timeline it snaps back to the same point it was at when the captions were made and won't play when I press play.

Also, everything works fine after transcribing the sequence. It's not until after the captions have been auto generated that everything locks up.

Sorry; somehow I missed your reply.

That is odd. I don't recall a report of this particular issue. It looks like this is locking up before the captions are displayed.

Things to try, some of which you probably can't do if it is frozen: e.g. close the Text panel. (I looked for a way to create captions from transcript by shortcut or by menu command - e.g. Sequence -> Captions - but I don't see a way.)

Are you transcribing in/out? It looks like there is in/out set. Try it with transcribing whole sequence and with no in/out set.

Reset preferences, create a new project, import one short video, transcribe and create captions. Any difference?

I've tried all of your suggestions and a few more. Different projects, file types, in/out, etc.

My next attempt will be uninstalling adobe completely from it's current drive (samsung SSD) and reinstalling it on a different drive (WD SSD).

I have several large projects through the end of the year so I am going to have to figure out something sooner or later. Will report back.
