Track Targeting Not Working

It seems track targeting is not working in 24.1.0?

Steps to recreate:

1. Copy clip from one sequence

2. In second sequence, ensure the track you want to paste to is the only one with track targeting activated.

3. Ctrl + V to paste copied clip to this second sequence

4. Clip is pasted to the corresponding track it CAME FROM, not the targeted track in destination sequence.

For example, I want to paste to Track 3. If I copy a clip from Track 1 in the source sequence, it will paste to Track 1 in the destination sequence, irregardless of whether Track 3 is the only one with Track Targeting active in the destination sequence. If I move the source clip up to Track 3 in the source sequence, THEN copy, it will land on Track 3 in the destination sequence, even if Track 1 is the only track with Track Targeting active. So it seems track targeting is not working, and tracks are being pasted based on their relative track in the source sequence.

I am working in 24.1.0 on a PC running Windows 10 Home Version 22H2 Build 19045.4170.

@matthewp76963315 This is actually on purpose, due to a semi-recent change in Premiere Pro. We now have keyboard shortcuts to control if you want to paste on the same track as where it came from or to paste onto the targeted track. Open Keyboard Shortcuts and search "paste track" to find these commands. If you want the previous behavior you can switch Ctrl+V from "Paste to Same Track" to "Paste to Target Track" instead.

You really overthought that one, that is the most unintuitive default behavior ever and has very nearly made me give up on Premiere because it always pasted over the top of my other clips without any warning and there was no way for me to know that that was somehow on purpose, since it makes no sense.

Start spending some time around here, a few minutes a day reading post names, and you'll keep up to date on the changes made. Matt out of kindness called it a 'semi-recent change' But it's been awhile now, a few years, so, set the shortcuts accordingly. Just enter 'paste' in the keyboard shortcuts you'll see the various options Adobe has supplied.
