Transparent Video Clips - New Behaviour

Transparent Video Clips suddenly started behaving differently in PPro 2023.

I used to be able to duplicate and use duplicates in a timeline and each clip used to be a separate distinct clip with it's own name and characteristics (which did not appear in a project). This behaviour was similar to titles clips

Now, suddenly all have started behaving as if they are are instances of a master clip - change one name and it renames all instances. Select one in the timeline and choose "rename clip" and it highlights the clip in the project (rather than giving a rename dialog).

This is new behaviour.

Where can I get information on when this was changed and how?

Ann Bens,

Thanks for taking time to respond.

This has nothing to do with what I've reported or the question I've asked.

Ann Bens,

Thanks for your additional response.

This does indeed address the behaviour I've described. Your insight is appreciated.

Further, it seems counter intuitive in its implimentation. This is what I can observe:

- "Show source clip name and label" means show the name of the Source (master) clip; it also changes the way "rename clip" works to change the name of the source (master) clip

- unchecking "Show source clip name and label" means show the name of the clip instance; it also changes the way "rename clip" works to change the name of the clip instance

I am uncertain of how the "label" portion of this function works as I have not tested it.

This appears to be entirely undocumented.

The entry on "creating special clips" does not describe this behavior

Creating Special Clips

The entry on "creating and playing clips" makes a number of errors:

Creating and Playing Clips

(one of the errors here is neglecting to mention that clips can be generated in Premiere Pro)

The entry on renaming clips makes no mention of this behaviour, and in fact doesn't cover renaming instances in the timeline.

Renaming Clips

If there's documentation on this, Adobe search doesn't find it easily:

Search

I have written elsewhere of the failings of Adobe documentation. This is an additional example.

Is this new? When was it changed? Is there documentation that I've missed?

This feature has always been present. It used to be in the Project Settings:

All I can say, the documentation is hopeless.
