Unable to change color to the part of the text

I have highlighted part of the sentene I'd like to change color, but when I do the change in the Effect Controls panel, it changes color for the whole "graphics."

Any ideas for the fix??

This screenshot shows you how to changed the fill for a sub-string text selection. Is it working like this for you now?
